Excursion either to Brussels (European Commission), Frankfurt (European
Central Bank), Luxembourg/Strasbourg (other European Institutions)
or Basel (BIS). Based on the insights of the previous workshop
in Wuppertal all participants have the opportunity to discuss basic and
current institutional and policy issues. Each participant has to write a
short summary report about the excursion and has to present a paper
on one of the EU institutions or one of the EU policy fields. The idea
is to familiarize students with the institutional division of labour within
the EU and to understand the task and role of the various institutions.
Institutions have a role both within the EU but often also are a policy
bridge to EU partner countries. Taking stock of EU policy and institutional
integration thus is possible, future challenges of the EU can be
analyzed. Students can team up in small study groups and also will
be encouraged to study the dynamics of cooperation within the overall
EU. Research issues and methods will be emphasized.
